COURSES AT THE CASTLE IN SEPTEMBER
4 weeks of new experiences, new skills and new friends in Wensleydale

A month of perfect opportunities to enjoy the stunning landscape of the Dales while discovering and developing new skills and meeting other people with similar interests. Our range of courses has something for everyone, with experienced and inspiring course leaders to ensure you have an intense and rewarding experience, while enjoying the stunning surroundings you will find yourself in.

Our Course Leaders
Some course leaders, like artist Piers Browne, photographer Simon Phillpotts, and angler Brian Towers are Wensleydale residents: their intimate knowledge of the area and its landscape makes them ideal guides to capturing its uniqueness (or catching its fish!).
Others, like best-selling historian and novelist Alison Weir, Irish novelist Anthony Quinn and flower arranger extraordinaire Nick Grounds, are distinguished visitors, bringing a fresh perspective on their skills.

The Castle
All courses are based in Bolton Castle while many range further afield on the Bolton Estates, whether for fishing, painting or photography. Course members have free access to the Castle during the day (when there will be visitors passing through) but also after hours, until darkness falls and the spectacular floodlighting comes on. They will also be given a tour of the castle by one of our knowledgeable guides.

Residential and non-residential
Two of the courses have residential options, using charming and comfortable Hawthorn Cottage in nearby Preston-under-Scar, where up to six people (3 couples) can enjoy ensuite accommodation while sharing a kitchen, garden and beautifully furnished sitting room and dining-room. For other courses, or if Hawthorn Cottage is already booked, we can help you to find accommodation elsewhere: there are many options nearby.
