has a civil wedding licence and is available for hire, for both weddings
and receptions. It is a beautiful mediaeval castle, completed in 1399.
During the English Civil War the castle was a royalist stronghold, for
Charles I; it fell to Cromwell's soldiers in 1645. It was seriously
damaged by the soldiers, leaving only about a third of the interior, and
two-thirds of the exterior. There are several rooms that can be used for
receptions, and functions can be large or small. Below is the relevant

Registrar has offices in both Northallerton and Leyburn. The Registrar's
office telephone number is: 01609 780780 ext. 2601 / 2602. Please note
that the hire of the castle does not include the Registrar's fee, catering
costs, tables or chairs. Tables, chairs and covers can be hired from C
& G Rentals they can be contacted on 01748 811511. Along with the
details of local caterers, there are several wine merchants in the area
who you may wish to contact, for example Wrightson & Co (Simon
Wrightson) on 01325 374134 and the Sommelier Wine Company (Maria Barnes)
on 01423 500181, who specialise in wedding receptions.
f you choose to have both your wedding and reception at the castle, the
wedding ceremony must begin after 4.30 pm, as the castle is open to the
Public until 5.00 pm (March to November). However, civil ceremonies can be
held earlier in the day. You are most welcome to use the gardens as a
backdrop for your photographs, should you wish to do so.
